You won't find any gluten, which is a highly allergenic substance for many people with sensitivities.

Instead, you'll find natural cassava flour in our bars. Cassava, or manioc root, is an edible starch and a major source of carbohydrates. Cassava has been used as a major staple food for many South American tribes, since Pre-Columbian times.

Besides being less allergenic, cassava flour is also much more nutritious than wheat flour, which has typically been refined, bleached and stripped of nutrients.

You won't find any high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). This chemically-converted, non-natural, corn-based sweetener can have negative effects on health. Fructose is metabolized to fat more than other sugars, making it clearly fat-promoting.

This is a chocolate covered bar, with a chocolatty-coconut inside. I eat little to no sugar and I found this just right in sweetness taste. It is USDA Organic with 4g protein and made with chia seeds. It says no trans fat. One bar is 210 calories, with 12g fat and 25g carbs---12g sugars. Contains almond butter and coconut (in case you are allergic). Has organic dark chocolate and organic raw cocoa powder, if you are looking to get some chocolate for health reasons. I would eat this as a snack to take away the hungries--with a drink. I grabbed one the other day while shopping. I was between meals and not ready to stop for food yet. I had the bar with a bottle of water and it did the trick. The chia seeds add a slight crunchiness, but they are tiny. I keep thinking about that "Chia Pet" commercial. I wonder if I now have a chia pet growing inside? :-) Good alternative product. Fructose is only at 1g of the 12g of sugar, as described by Mercola on his website. These bars ARE pricey. $30 for a box of 12 means $2.50 per bar. Your average protein bar is about $2.50 a piece, but a snack bar like this are usually about $1.25-$1.50 a piece. Mercola has a knack for REALLY marking up his products big-time, so it's not much of a surprise. I like the formulation, they make me feel good, so I'm willing to part with the $2.50 per bar.
